Most companies open a Pinterest account, pin their content and re-pin other people’s material. While that’s a great place to start, you can improve your Pinterest marketing success using the following tips:

1. Treat Pinterest Like a Search Engine

Search Engine

Even though Pinterest is mainly a visual platform, content still plays a very important role, so approach it as the visual search engine it is. Pinterest is now suggesting things readers might be interested in, and they get these suggestions from words used in pin descriptions. Therefore, by keeping your target audience in mind, strategically name your image files and write description text for your board and for your pins.

When Pinterest first started, they gave users suggested board topics. They still do, to a lesser degree. Instead of going with suggested board titles, take it to the next level by using something unique that’s also SEO-friendly.

2. Take Advantage of Rich Pins

Rich Pins

From Pinterest: “Right now, there are five types of Rich Pins: movie, recipe, article, product, and place. To get started, you’ll need to prep your website with meta tags, test out your Rich Pins and apply to get them on Pinterest. If you’re not technical, you might want to ask your developer or site owner to help get you going!”
3. Test Your Content Everywhere

Mobile Responsive

Since more and more people use Pinterest on their mobile devices, invest some of your time to test images not just on your desktop, but also on a variety of mobile platforms such as tablets and smart phones.
Make sure your site is mobile-responsive and also mobile-friendly by testing:

  • If the images you created for your content appear on the mobile version of your website;
  • If the images are cropped off, or if text is used, is it readable on a small screen;
  • If your images are pinnable;
  • If your social sharing buttons appear and work properly.

4. Create Contributor Boards
