Web and Book Design for Zee & Zoey, Coral Springs

A Fun and Endearing Brand Built Around Deborah Barnes’s Book, “the Chronicles of Zee and Zoey”

We provided the web and graphic design for “The Chronicles of Zee and Zoey”, by Deborah Barnes – based in Coral Springs, Florida, in the great Fort Lauderdale area. Working with Deborah on the design and layout of her first book was nothing short of an extraordinary experience. Unlike most design projects, this one in particular involved many illustrations and layouts with personal touches that directly related to the story, while not ignoring the fact that at the same time we were building a brand. In 2013, Deborah was awarded 2013 “Writer of the Year” by Friskies Purina on behalf of the Cat Writers’ Association, and the blog (below) was awarded many times, both for its design and its stories.

Book Design

The design of The Chronicles of Zee & Zoey was an essential part of its charm, as well as of its message. Each chapter was adorned with custom designed illustrations, photo collages, and a multitude of artistic accents that complemented the story and visually narrated it. The project took us through the magical world of Deborah Barnes. We provided web design as well as book design for Barnes, who lives in Coral Springs, South Florida with her family and, of course, her cats.

Web Design

The web and blog design for the Coral Springs, Florida author are just as visually rich as the book. We created a charming surreal space that draws you in the extraordinarily ordinary world of Zee, Zoey and their feline and human family. On the website, the visitors can buy the book online, read reviews, watch photos and videos, or read the whimsical blog. Over the years, the website was updated to include Deborah’s second book, but in essence it remained the same.

Logo

Deborah’s publishing company also needed a logo to tie into the brand image developed around the Zee & Zoey book and website. This quirky logo design for the Coral Springs based writer represents the two cats snuggling together. Their tails unite to create the shape of a heart.

Print Marketing Materials

Our project with Deborah included a few other materials that tie into the brand – bookmarks, postcards, invitations & more. Barnes is an accomplished author and also serves as Secretary of the nonprofit Pawsitively Humane, Inc. of Miami, Florida. She has authored “The Chronicles of Zee & Zoey – A Journey of the Extraordinarily Ordinary” and “Purr Prints of the Heart – A Cat’s Tale of Life, Death, and Beyond.”
